Vergence 0.12b released
Vergence » Devlog
Vergence development continues actively. Here is a list of changes in the new version:
- Added an invitation to join the Vergence Discord server: https://discord.gg/VsChYkEsUH
- Rewrote the example of play to better present a range of game mechanics.
- Fixed some incorrect references to rules that had changed.
- Added optional edges and flaws to cohorts.
- Removed long rests and moved healing into the scheming phase.
- I was not expecting to be rewriting basic mechanics at this stage of game development, but here we are. It’s still in playtest, people! The faction system was completely redone to add a resource called favor. The PCs can earn favor with different factions and spend it to improve die rolls and gain other benefits. They can also spend favor with a faction they have a mutually beneficial relationship with to form an alliance.
- Changed healing to remove the healing clock and instead just have a roll that always has some effect (stolen from my other FitD game, Raiders in the Dark).
- Removed the acquire asset scheming phase action, which can happen via long-term project action or other player activity when necessary.
- Added favor mechanics to alliance special abilities where appropriate.
- Added a table to the Masked Ball to optionally determine a PC’s reason for being involved.
- Moved the People and Places chapter to earlier in the book. That way, the parts that players are not supposed to read (the GM challenge guides) are all the way in the back. Players can more easily access the stuff they are supposed to look at with less worry about straying into the parts they are asked to avoid.
- Added a section on what to do if different players want to go into different phases at the same time (“phase splits”).
- Slightly expanded GM advice chapter.
- Added a list of tables.
- Added an illustrated back page in preparation for an eventual print version of the game.
- Updated handouts, playsheets, and online character keeper to fit new mechanics.
- Added a Scheming and Cohorts page to the handouts file and moved some things around between handouts.
- Added a Favor and Grievance Tracker to the playsheets file.
- Updated the PC Connections form in Google Sheets because the old one was trash and I should never have allowed it out into the wild (bad me).
