Thoughts on Forging in the Dark is a guide to making and modifying games using the Forged in the Dark tabletop roleplaying game system. Originally written for Blades in the Dark by John Harper, the Forged in the Dark engine has been adapted for use by  Scum and Villainy, Band of Blades, and many indie games.

This is a guide for anyone interested in modifying a Forged in the Dark game or writing a game using this engine. It goes through all of the core systems of the game, including playsheets, special abilities, crews, dice mechanics, action rolls, stress, resistance, etc. You'll learn what that system does, how  the parts relate to each other, and what kinds of modifications or changes you might make.

La guía está en español??

Lo siento, pero no hablo Español suficientemente bien.

I'm having a little trouble downloading the epub. It doesn't come up in the files after I press Download Now. Am I doing something wrong?

I've uploaded a new epub file. See if that works for you. If not, please let me know.

I'm sorry for the lack of a reply! The download works fine now 👌🏻 The lay-out does make it hard to read though, so I've committed to the pdf.

Yes, it is a formatted rather than reflowable epub document. I hope you find the PDF easy enough to work with.

This is a wonderful resource. Lets me re-examine mechanics in a systematic way, without getting lost in my own imagination over BitD's superb thematic delivery.
